He WILL Give You More Than You Can Bear

“How could she say that?”God would never give me too much if He knew it would break me.”
Well... maybe that’s exactly what He needs from you—the breaking.Tough times in our lives have a way of bringing us to His feet.
Now, what if I also told you that He not only allows the trial, but sometimes He is the one giving it?
Let’s Bring Scripture Into This
Isaiah 48:10 says:"Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction."
Now that we have proof that He gives these trials, you may ask, “Why?”Well, while you're asking that, also ask yourself this:
“How can growth be produced in comfort?”
When I think of this, I picture someone lifting weights.Say one day you're able to bench 50 pounds because that’s what you're comfortable with. You do it effortlessly. It’s light work. But is muscle developing? Are you really growing?
When something is easy to lift, you probably won’t need a spotter or helper. But what is a spotter?
What Is a Spotter?
A spotter in the gym is someone who assists a weightlifter during exercises to ensure safety and support. They typically:
Provide assistance
Prevent injury
Encourage and motivate
Help with heavier weights
What Can We Equate a Spotter to Spiritually?
The Holy Spirit.
Let’s be honest with ourselves. When things are easy, do we really call on Him?If life is always smooth, do you find it necessary to lean on God?
No.
That’s why the enemy tries to blind people with physical blessings, making it seem like everything is going well. But it’s when you're brought low, when you feel like you have nowhere else to turn, that you look up and call on Him.That’s why He allows you to go through things you feel you can’t get out of—so that you will call on Him.
Psalm 119:71"It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes."
Trials
The Most High allows the trial, but He wants you to pass the test, because it builds you.
What Joseph went through in Genesis was something the enemy intended for evil. His brothers betrayed him. The enemy can use people just like God can.
Look at how Satan made sure Job’s wife stayed around—because he knew he could work through her.
God will allow the trial, but He’s watching to see whether you trust Him in the midst of immense pain and suffering.
Genesis 50:20"But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good..."
You were enlisted as a soldier.
2 Timothy 2:4
If I were enlisted in a physical army, wouldn't I expect to undergo training?Training that might seem unbearable—but it’s preparing me for what lies ahead.
It’s the same with us spiritually.
Acts 14:22"We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God..."
You will go through it. But it’s for a greater purpose—and it’s for His glory.
These trials can weaken us in our human strength, leading us to realize that we need a Helper. We can’t win through our own strength or understanding.
2 Corinthians 12:9"My power is made perfect in weakness."
So yes—be weak, so that He can be strong. Once you acknowledge your weakness, you call upon Him, and He will help you.
2 Corinthians 12:7–10Paul was given a thorn to keep him humble.
That’s the difference between God’s blessings and the enemy’s.
When we are blessed by God, He wants us to stay humble and acknowledge Him.The enemy wants us to be prideful and say, “I did this on my own.”
Sometimes, even in blessing, God may allow something to slow us down—to remind us we are nothing without Him.
Important Note
It was a thorn in the flesh. It didn’t hinder Paul spiritually.
The enemy may have wanted Paul to charge God foolishly, just like he tried with Job.But our fleshly body is nothing compared to our spirit.
The Word tells us to crucify our flesh and its deeds.
The Word tells us to walk in the Spirit and be led by it.
We are to worship Him in spirit and in truth.
We should not identify with our flesh—we are not our flesh.
If Paul hadn’t been walking in the Spirit, he may have focused on the physical and blamed God. But he understood:
2 Corinthians 4:16–18"Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day..."
You will go through it—but He is with you.
Psalm 23
Isaiah 43:2
Isaiah 30:20
Why Does He Place Us in the Trial?
Malachi 3:2–3He is the Refiner.
Isaiah 48:10"I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction."
Comparison: The Silversmith
A silversmith knows silver is fully refined when they can clearly see their reflection in it.This means the impurities are removed and the silver is pure.
He watches the silver closely because it’s precious—and if overheated, it can be destroyed.
In the same way, He is watching you.He will allow the heat—but only to remove what isn’t like Him.He wants you to reflect Him.
1 Peter 1:16"Be ye holy; for I am holy."
A Word Received on Comfort (June 2024)
We’ve become so accustomed to being comfortable that when God takes us somewhere new, we try to find the quickest way out.
Comfort is often associated with being “safe.”But in reality, it can be the opposite.
What can you learn in your comfort zone, except the same thing over and over? There’s nothing new—just repetition.
But in discomfort, we are able to grow.
Just because you're uncomfortable doesn’t mean it won’t produce greatness.
Final Thoughts
So yes, He will give you more than you can bear—But while you're suffering, call upon Him, so He may give you the strength to endure.
